We have been working with wood for over 25 years. We use fine hardwoods, both native and exotic, to create a variety of box styles in both square and sculpted forms to hold jewelry and for many other purposes. Various woods and other materials, including some rare burls, are used in making a complete line of writing instruments including ballpoint, rollerball and fountain pens and mechanical pencils in both American and European styles. We also create a unique style of lathe work called ornamental turning. This craft is a rare style of woodturning in which small decorative geometric cuts are placed upon the workpiece in a precise pattern to create a wide variety of ornamental effects. The ornamental turnings are inspired by architectural influences drawn from a lifelong study of world architecture, using influences as varied as Texas courthouses, the onion domes of Russian Orthodox churches and the pagoda roofs of Japanese Shinto temples. The ornament is carefully chosen to support and enhance the architectural flavor of the piece. Polychromatic designs utilize the beauty and variety of color offered by rare hardwoods to complement each other. Some designs utilize a technique called sgraffito where the surface wood is cut through to expose a contrasting wood inlaid below. Although functional as perfume bottles, atomizers, boxes and clocks, these objects are miniature collectibles with an almost jewel-like quality, in the tradition of the Faberge and Japanese netsuke work. We aspire in our work to create woodwork that will enrich the lives of its owners by combining the incomparable patterns of nature with a careful and meticulous craftmanship. We use the natural beauty of wood to enhance our designs in both functional and collectible work in the belief that craft well done can be a joy to experience and a source of daily inspiration.
