MOMENTS IN TIME - STORIES THROUGH THE LENS
PHOTOGRAPHY CAPTURING SPIRIT OF PLACE
While still doing work in fiber and mixed media, my
main focus these days is photography. Simply put, I love to take pictures, and I love
to tell a story. My interests are varied, but mostly involve turning nature into the
abstract, fall down buildings, anything with rust, and the unexpected candid moments that
just magically appear. A great deal of my work reflects a sense of place, which is
most often the Southwest and West Texas. I believe that I have a good eye, but
many of my images are the result of being at the right place at the right time, leaning
just far enough over the cliff, hoping for the perfect light, and the dIvine combinations
of luck and that little bit of magic. And just getting out there, where it all happens.
It is my passion to seek out those special places, to capture their spirit in that moment,
and to tell their story through the lens of my camera. And it is my reward when my
images touch someone, enough for them to want to possess them, and include them in their
own time and space.

DARK LIGHT©
National Canyon
Grand Canyon, Arizona
Toward the end of our journey rafting the Grand Canyon,
we made camp at National Canyon, River Mile 166. We had time to explore and photograph in
the waning hours of the late afternoon, and I headed back into the narrowing corridors of
the side canyon. I felt a special magic here, and it was further emphasized by the play of
last light reflected in the waters of the creek that splashed along down the canyon floor.
I was lost in amazement, caught up in the interplay of darkness and light. I knew it was
getting close to the end, and I believe I found my favorite image of the Grand Canyon here
in these passages. Bats swooped around me, lizards shared my path, and it all combined to
open my heart and soul to the magic of the place. I left National Canyon in tears,
grateful for the experience of a lifetime, and the many rewards of fulfilling the dream I
had waited for, for so long. |

Shining Through the Eye©
Lower Antelope Canyon Arizona
It's been one of my quests for years now to make the journey to
Antelope Canyon in northeastern Arizona. Early this fall I managed to make my quest a
reality, and I was not disappointed in any aspect of it. I found it to be a most magical
place, with the light of the sun penetrating into the narrow slot canyons to illumine a
most unworldly place, filled with such beauty as to bring me to tears. No matter what
happens in life to try to persuade us that our dreams cannot be made manifest, sometimes
we manage to realize them anyway, though often our circumstances are different than our
original plans. Such are the ways of the journey. |

Sotol Soldiers,
Marching Onward Through the Fog©
Big Bend National Park Texas
At first the fog seemed like a terrible thing to have
happened. No vistas to marvel at. Almost impossible to drive. But after spending some time
in it, the gift of the fog was revealed. Magic was everywhere. The landscape became
surreal, and everything was a mystery. No longer was it possible to assume what was around
the next curve, for there wasn't even a next curve. Many times have I been to Big Bend,
with rain and wind and cold and heat, or perfect weather. But once you open your mind to
something different, you find out just how perfect different can be, too.
