Van Wilks performs at the 2006 Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. He has been a popular Saturday night performer at many previous bazaars. Van is a virtuoso guitar player, and his music is eclectic, but if a name needed to be applied to his style, it might be Texas blues rock. With a career stretching into its third decade, he is a four time Austin Chronicle Music Poll winner and has been inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame. In a town known for its guitar players, Van's 12-string acoustic guitar work stands out, with distinctive slide effects, harmonics and a beautiful, truly captivating full sound. Declared "a perfect cross between Jimi Hendrix and Van Halen" by the Austin-American Statesman, Van has toured nationally and internationally with such acts as ZZ Top (whose Billy Gibbons is one of Van’s biggest supporters) and torn the roof off nightclubs and concert halls from Lubbock, Texas , the Virgin Islands, Moscow, Paris, Madrid, and countless points all over Europe. As the Houston Chronicle noted of one show: "By the end of the night we were all so delirious we wouldn’t let them go until they came out for several post-closing-time encores".
